I have a game I play with myself, and it’s weird, but I enjoy it. I read biographies of terrible politicians, and I fantasize that I have a Time Machine! And I select a vulnerable moment in their past and time-travel back and ruin their careers, so they never become powerful. https://twitter.com/janemayernyer/status/1249448889092124672
Now, the point of the game is you have to make it seem like just fate, so you have to select the time and the manner in which you would ruin their career very carefully, so that the overall historical flow it’s not seriously impacted. That’s the confines of this particular game.
So it’s kind of like the opposite of going back in time to kill Hitler and dramatically altering the course of history. This game is you don’t dramatically alter history for everyone - just ONE person. Which has a ripple effect of course but, point is that it’s just one pebble.
Believe me, this is a game I play pretty much every day with politicians now, and I’ve gotten some *tremendously* creative ideas about it.
With the story about McConnell - I think his vulnerable point would’ve been after he was divorced, before he married Margaret Cho. So in my time-travel fantasy, I’d pose as a very rich widowed-lady donor, and then lure him into my web. Political destruction would soon follow.
Wait wait wait NOT Margaret Cho that was a very stupid mistake on my part, and admittedly I was voice to texting kind of casually, but I still don’t know why that came out of my mouth because I meant of COURSE Elaine Chao
But now that I said Margaret Cho, I seriously think that she should star in the TV version of this.
