1/A true story: On Friday I sent a package to my dad. My local postmaster told me @usps couldn't deliver overnight to rural Montana. The contents were perishable, so she recommended I try @FedEx. https://twitter.com/amuse/status/1249359264566726657
3/So I drove across town to @FedExOffice with my medium flat rate
full of morel mushrooms.

4/The nice lady at the counter told me they don't deliver overnight to rural Montana, but she could send it 2-day (with a Monday delivery) for a little over $100. Yes, you read that right.
5/Knowing that a medium flat rate @usps priority
costs $15.05, I politely declined the additional $85 cost and went back to the post office. The place where Miss Mary knows my name and all about my family, and puts up a tree during Christmas so the kids can make decorations.

6/It's the place where you can send a letter to Public Land Lover with just a zip code and she would put it in my box. It's the place where the birthdays of local residents are marked on the free calendar that hangs above the counter.
7/I sent my package of
to Papa PLL and it will still arrive on Monday (again,
) and I paid $15.05 with the fringe benefit of all of the above and more. The @USPS is not a for-profit company, and its profit margins shouldn't be compared to for-profit companies.

8/It does not pay federal taxes just like other government agencies do not pay federal taxes. NPS doesn't, DOD doesn't, the Department of Energy doesn't.
Buy some stamps, send a package, write a letter, call your reps, and #SaveThePostOffice.

9/Also, let's get our postal workers proper PPE. At my local post office the EMPLOYEES used their own money to buy clear plastic shower curtains to hang above their counters.
