The world feels a little crazy right now - so I'm thinking about space instead. Happy #yurisnight, happy Easter, and happy (they got back safely) Apollo 13 anniversary too. Since my brain isn't working, how about I show you something awesome and mindboggling? #Apollo13
It's a photograph. A special photograph indeed. It's a photograph of Jim Lovell, and he's signing a photograph of Jim Lovell signing a photograph of Jim Lovell with a picture of me and Jim Lovell on the table beside it. And it makes me smile. A lot. #Apollo13
This photo wouldn't have been possible without #NasaTweetUp (now #NasaSocial), my awesome STS133 buddies Nate and @therealdjflux, plus the amazing people at @space_lectures - which is where this photo was taken. I wrote up Jim Lovell's talk: http://spacekate.com/2015/amazing-encounters-apollo-13s-jim-lovell/
Bonus anecdote: When Lovell was in London receiving an honour from GAPAN (which is when I got to meet him the second time), there was a photo call in front of the Apollo 10 capsule at @sciencemuseum. He was so patient while photographers asked him to look this way, then that...
...and then he said jokingly "It's not even my capsule!".
I asked him as question later on - a bundle of nerves - about the dark side of the Moon. He quickly corrected me - *far side* - and I've been careful never made the mistake since.
