I live in a predominately white neighborhood on the North Side, and I think it's important y'all see what "closed" parks and beaches look like up here as compared to the South and West Sides #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

Today (a holiday with relatively cold/dreary weather) I saw people strolling, jogging, walking their dogs, even picnicking #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

Folks were playing frisbee, baseball, basketball, soccer, generally living their best lives #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

Most important of all, POLICE WERE THERE stationed at multiple entrances, not harassing, stopping or blocking anyone #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

Clearly the parks and beaches are an important resource. I was there because I needed a mental health break. Folks also seemed to be generally practicing social distancing #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

The problem is if this can be allowed on the North Side, why isn't it elsewhere. Why, as @stacydavisgates points out, are Black on Brown people not even being allowed free movement on their own blocks, much less the parks and beaches? #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome

If the parks are closed, the parks are closed. If they're only closed to poor, working, Black and Brown people, then we should be having another conversation #COVID19 #ShelterInPlace #StayHome
