I wrote my book, Preserving the People’s Post Office, back in 2006 as a response to President George W. Bush’s push to privatize the #PostalService. It was wrong then, and any attempt to privatize #USPS remains wrong now. 1/
FedEx, UPS, and other corporations would love to take over only the profitable parts of the Postal Service that fund the USPS’s entire national network. Any commitment to serving rural and low income Americans would be the casualty. 2/
Proponents of privatizing the postal service always claim this would improve efficiency. This claim is mistaken. Efficiency over public service is a disservice to us all. The profit motive would destroy universal mail and delivery service for all Americans. 3/
The Postal Service serves all Americans equally. That’s been its mission since 1775 when Ben Franklin served as the first postmaster general. The post office still promotes democracy today. In fact, our democracy itself could depend on voting by mail, come November. 4/
