1) New case from Denmark shows how #COVID19 exposes stupidity of "populist" laws targeting Muslims. (Most well-known is ban on face covering...ironic given current practice of face-covering.) The latest fail? Denmark's 2018 law requiring people to shake hands to become citizens.

2) The 2018 Danish law -- passed in response to Muslims who refused on religious grounds to touch members of the opposite sex -- requires anyone who takes Danish citizenship to shake hands with the local mayor at the naturalization ceremony. No handshake? No citizenship.

3) A spokesperson on immigration for right-wing Danish People's Party said, “If one can’t do something that simple and straightforward, there’s no reason to become a Danish citizen.” Denmark even banned use of gloves as a way around the law. By any definition, the law is useless.

4) Then, a funny thing happened exposing the utter stupidity of the law: #COVID19. In Denmark, the government has said that handshakes are to be avoided, creating a ludicrous Catch-22 where, to become citizens, people would have to go against the demands of the Danish government.
