Since I think this is a good topic to cover (in regards to how to use inspiration in games from others due to the same materials to work with and all that)
Here's a short thread on how to take inspiration from other people's islands in #ACNH
I'm going to use this video as an example because I watched it today and I took screenshots I can explain XD
So the island is:
- horror themed
- great use of terraforming for narrow paths
- has straight stretches of land for villager houses
- nice use of custom textures for accentuating the horror aesthetic
So you go from there and decide what you actually like. In my case:
- Terraforming is my lifeblood, but I wouldn't make the winding pathways so narrow because I don't like the camera changing drastically/I like to run through areas quicker without hitting cliffs
- I really like the stones to hop across the river but it would be put somewhere that doesn't lead to anywhere important because again, I like s p e e d
The feeling of the location is absolutely great with the waterfalls and verticality though so will take that
Other notes:
- I don't really like flowers so much so I wouldn't put them on the cliffs and put trees instead for more dimensionality
- I prefer a more muted/natural colour scheme so wouldn't use imperial fencing
- etc etc stuff to do with what I personally like as a builder
tl;dr - identify what parts of islands you like and don't like then decide for yourself how to recreate it in your own way that would suit your build style/idea of your island. In my case, my island is made up of several different sections so these videos help me get cliff ideas
though really this applies to how you learn as an artist in general (since I also draw, as it happens) like
I like to think of taking inspiration as putting your own remix to influences you enjoy/decide what things you could improve yourself on things you don't like
@TeenCrossin tagging you because I had many thoughts and hope this helps lmao
