The Postal Service, in addition to being the ultimate essential workforce, is a metaphor for the commons we have created.

We fail to value so much of our commons not because it performs poorly but because it hums along so well we never need to think about it.

Mail is a miracle. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1249032058493681664
A problem the Postal Service, and so much public infrastructure, faces is that, once it solves its problem, that activity goes into a bucket of Things We Are Never Grateful For Ever Again.

Every day some two-bit entrerepreneur is on a magazine cover, and the commons never is.
