Seems like a lot of bad things can happen when open white supremacy isn't an election day dealbreaker
People want to act like race is a separate thing from everything else, but we're staring down the prospect of losing the USPS because of the shambolic state of the understanding of racism in this country
White supremacy, capitalism, the destructive urge to privatization, can't be disentangled. Poor white folks only buy in because they can have confidence that they'll never be at the bottom rung
White supremacy systemically suppresses the opportunities of especially Black and Indigenous folks and calls it a meritocracy, allowing even poor white folks to be above at least someone
Privatization of important services benefits those with wealth; thus privatization feeds into the meritocratic mindset, that some deserve fundamental services more than others
Not recognizing the bedrock necessity of racism to the inflicting of all of this pain will only mean the deepening of pain as time passes, regardless of which party holds power in this country
This, btw, is part of why class-first analysis is overly myopic. If you succeed in raising Black and Native folks out of poverty, there are still massive electoral incentives for any politician willing to drag them back down
Class-first tends to assume that a more equitable distribution of wealth will solve racial strife, but that ignores the effect that government has on the ultimate demography of class
For example, they didn't need to do anything extra for more Black and brown people to die during this pandemic. They simply let the existing structure of this country do its thing
White supremacy isn't just a "bad idea," it's a wish to be fulfilled, a policy to be put into action, and it eventually destroys everything, but it starts by killing those who it believes deserve to die
