THE APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM (ATS) IS A BAD B*TCH!
BUT I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO TAME IT!!!

There's a high chance that the reason you're not getting called for an interview is because your CV has refused to beat the APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM!
In this thread, I'll show you how to beat this! How to get past ATS and get called for your dream job interview.

This thread answers the questions you have in your mind right now. The what, the why and the how! Let's go.
What's APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM ?
It's simple. It's a software used by recruiters and firms to rank, sort, scan and select job applications they receive during a hiring process.
The ATS software would either send the applications that it's successfully scanned to the HR for further review or just send the job candidate an invite for a job interview. Sounds cool right ? 😅
But, why do recruiters use the ATS ?
That too is simple; To make recruitment easy. It's really just that and nothing else. Recruiters receive tons of applications for job openings of a just a few and because there's so much work to do, they use ATS to make their job easier and faster. Simple
But that reason tells us one thing, ATS is about the recruiter not about you. It's designed to make the work of the recruiter easy not the job of the job candidate. Here's what I mean;
The job of the recruiter is to sort, scan and select the perfect job candidate for interview...
Your "job", as a "job seeker" is to apply for a job putting your best foot forward, ensuring that you have higher chances of getting the job.

The job of the ATS is to make the job of the recruiter easy.

Now who's going to make your own job easy ? đŸ˜„
Well, Me. That's why you're reading this thread right now. To teach you how to beat the ATS.

To beat the ATS, we should understand how it works, isn't it said that it's until you understand the enemy that you can fight it ? Yes. So let's understand how ATS works.
Remember - the ATS; ranks, scans, sorts and selects. It does these by dividing the content of a CV into different categories then scans for keywords that's been set on it by the recruiter!
The ATS would determine a job seeker is unqualified for a job if it doesn't find the previously set keywords in the job seeker's CV. So even if a job candidate feels qualified for a job and applies, he/she may not get called back if the application is not ATS compliant.
Now, how do you make your application ATS compliant ?
We've understood the enemy now right ? It's time to fight it and beat it!!!
Remember our enemy, ATS works by reading keywords ? That's why we are going to beat it by feeding it keywords! Sounds simple right ?!
Beating the ATS means using keywords sufficiently in your job application. Remember that your CV is not the only thing in your application process ? There's your cover letter and even body of email. So make sure you use keywords in them.
But wait! We have another problem!
How do we know the keywords to use ? And how do we use them ?
Remember this; ATS is a software, so it doesn't direct itself, no matter how great it is, It's still directed by a human! The keywords the ATS would search for, are set on it by recruiters.
and remember that the recruiter has in mind the perfect candidate for the advertised role ? And because the recruiter wants the perfect candidate, the recruiter would, in the job advert, state the requirements for the role!
Voila!!! We have our keywords!
You see the job post you read before applying for a job? The requirements part is where you'll find your keywords. So read that part well and infuse it in your CV, cover letter and email body.
The requirements too are mostly skills, so make sure you write these skills in your SUMMARY section, then make them detailed under the CORE COMPETENCIES section. That's not all, include it your EXPERIENCE section.
And that way, the ATS will pick up your CV!
But that's not all.
The ATS makes mistakes sometimes, because it's a software, it finds it difficult to read certain things like images, charts and infographics. So, avoid those things in your CV or cover letter.
There's also the issue of the kind of document format the ATS can read. In this case, the job advert will specify, so if it says send documents in PDF or DOC or DOCX or TXT format, please send it in the specified format. If it doesn't specify, use your discretion.
Another way to beat ATS is to follow instructions. If the recruiter says; use a particular phrase or sentence as the email subject, please do. Send in a document format ? Please do.
Always read the job advert very well and follow what it says!
DO YOU KNOW ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL WAY TO BEAT ATS ?!!!
LINKEDIN!!!!
Here's how; LinkedIn is built in a way that, when you optimize your profile well, you'll be sent job adverts matching your profile. What this means is that LinkedIn does the scanning for you.
It looks through your Optimized profile then send you job posts with requirements that matches your profile. It even tells you how you measure up to the requirements! What's there not to love ?!
You know where to look for your Optimized LINKEDIN Profile don't you ? Me!
Here's another thing; when your CV gets past ATS after you've done all I've mentioned up there, there's a high chance it's sent to the recruiter for further checking, it means that, your CV should impress the recruiter too!
I know, you think that's another hurdle for you to jump
The ATS helps recruiters do their job. It's like an assistant.
There's absolutely nothing wrong in getting your own assistant to help you do your job search.
That's why I'm here.
I'll help you craft a classic ATS compliant CV that will impress the recruiter so much that he won't want to take his eyes off your CV like a man wouldn't take his eyes off a beautiful, stylish Parisian woman walking in the streets of Paris!
