1. #Gibraltar #5G #Gibtelecom. I head up technology at Gibtelecom and would like to set the record straight with regards to 5G. Also happy to answer non-commercially sensitive questions.

2. Even though I don’t usually engage in others’ speculation, I fear that an unreasonable voice is gaining momentum within our community. I would, therefore, advise those individuals who are contributing to the discussions to conduct in-depth research from reputable sources.

3. Those who are fueling the conspiracy theorists should refrain, given that parts of our society are becoming increasing worried. And, those of you that are genuinely afraid, don’t be.

4. The frequencies that we are going to be using for 5G in Gibraltar are no different (in practical terms) to those used by your WiFi devices at home and those currently used by 2G and 4G. As at the time of writing, we have no plans to use “millimetre waves”.

5. The underlying technology is no different to 3G or 4G. The only real difference is in the way the available frequencies are controlled to deliver multiple signals simultaneously. Something that, to a lesser extent, already exists in 4G.

6. 5G frequencies are located on well trodden territory. Satellite providers in Gibraltar have used these frequencies for a number of decades.

7. We’ve currently had a trial running for some months. The trial runs on 3 5G antennas. 2 located on our HQ and another one close to No.6. Sometimes they are on, sometimes they are off. We have not concealed any antennas within lampposts, or LED installations.

8. The total number of 5G antennas is yet to be determined, but it is envisaged that we won’t need more than a few (<5) additional ones, over and above what we currently use for 2G/3G/4G.

9. The frequencies that are licensed to Gibtelecom are regulated by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority. The maximum theoretical power levels are determined by licensing conditions that the GRA impose. These conditions are based on guidelines sanctioned by the World Health Org.

10. Gibtelecom self-imposes further restrictive measures in order to mitigate the power emitted from all mobile antennas. we reduce power to an absolute minimum without endangering the service to its customers.

11. It is scientifically impossible to link COVID-19 to the rollout of 5G.
