U23 Wingers – Data Analysis

In this thread, I will use data to analyze the best young wingers in Europe.

I created 5 charts, ranked EVERY player and wrote a few lines about the best ones.

Let’s find out where your team’s winger ranks!⬇️
My first chart measures chance creation with the help of Key Passes and xA. Nkunku’s dominance is undeniable.

The second chart focuses on shooting volume and quality using xG and Shots. Rashford’s numbers are heavily impacted by the fact that he used to play as a CF a few times
The third scatter plot shows us the most efficient dribblers.

Hudson-Odoi and Saint-Maximin overshadow the rest of the team. Kubo’s numbers are also remarkable, while Sancho’s success rate is a bit disappointing.
Crosses / Passes to penalty area accuracy

This one reveals how accurate our wingers are when they have to deliver the ball into the 18-yard box.

Nkunku is above everyone else again.
The last chart helps us understand why so many teams are after Jadon Sancho.

I hate this term but now I have to use it:
He really is in his own world.
I ranked every player with the help of this scoring-system:

- below average: 0
- slightly above average: 1
- in-between slightly above and significantly above average: 2
- significantly above average: 3
SCORESHEET
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Jadon Sancho - BVB Dortmund (20)

Sancho’s output numbers are shocking, with 0,62 non penalty-goals and 0,72 assists per 90, the young Englishman participated in 44% of the BVB’s goals this season. If any team wants to sign him, will have to dive into its pocket!

MV: €117.00m
🇫🇷 Christopher Nkunku – RB Leipzig (22)

I feel like people still haven’t realized how ridiculously good Nkunku is. His first season in Germany, played only two-third of the games, and gave 14 assists in 23 matches? @Transfermarkt, pump those numbers up, please!

MV: €28.00m
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Callum Hudson-Odoi – Chelsea (19)

Some people say CHO is overrated because he doesn’t score goals. I always strongly disagreed with that statement but this analysis just proves my point: Callum is easily one of the greatest wingers of his generation!

MV: €31.50m
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Marcus Rashford – MU (22)

This is might be a bit controversial because Rashford played more games as a striker in his career. I still feel like his true position is on the left-wing, and he actually was used there once he and Martial both were fit this season.

MV: €64.00m
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Harvey Barnes – Leicester City (22)

Barnes is rapid and excellent in the final third: 6 goals and 6 assists in his first full PL campaign are very decent numbers. He is one of the many reasons behind Leicester’s phenomenal season this year.

MV: €17.50m
🇺🇸 Christian Pulisic – Chelsea (21)

Pulisic went a bit under the radar this season in my opinion. Sadly he suffered from injuries but was exceptional when he was on the pitch, his numbers are showing that too. Give him a full season and he will flourish!

MV: €54.00m
Honorable Mentions

🇫🇷 Moussa Diaby - Bayer Leverkusen (20)
🇫🇷 Marcus Thuram - Borussia Monchengladbach (22)
🇫🇷 Kingsley Coman - Bayern Munchen (23)
🇪🇸 Ansu Fati - Barcelona (17)
