At this difficult time charities across the UK have gone above and beyond to assist, support and offer comfort to communities during #Covid19. I’d like to thank them for their efforts and share some examples of those I have spoken to recently. [Thread]
Social care workers and all those who provide care play a central life-saving role for so many every day. @SharedLivesPlus carers are at the frontline of this essential work, and @CarersUK are giving invaluable advice to carers, including the millions providing unpaid care.
With domestic abuse cases increasing during lockdown, @safelives_ have produced an online guide about staying safe during the isolation period. https://safelives.org.uk/news-views/domestic-abuse-and-covid-19
. @BritishRedCross are doing vital work to help ensure people in the asylum system are housed safely & have access to healthcare. @Locality are also providing advice & support for community organisations so they can keep services running through the crisis. https://locality.org.uk/services-tools/resources/coronavirus-covid-19-information-and-support/
No one should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. @FareshareUK has had over 500 new charities asking for food on top of the 11,000 they already support. Find out more here: https://fareshare.org.uk/giving-food/
. @actnforchildren are supporting some of the most vulnerable during this crisis, and have developed advice and guidance for families including 1-1 support from experienced parenting coaches. http://parents.actionforchildren.org.uk
During the lockdown, it’s so important to keep mentally and physically healthy. To combat loneliness @TheCaresFamily has released an #AloneTogether
activity pack created by young people to help older neighbours stay connected. https://thecaresfamily.org.uk/blog/alonetogether-30-creative-ways-to-stay-together-this-april-even-from-afar

.@HealingJusticeLDN has created mental and physical health support for marginalised communities. http://www.healingjusticeldn.org
. @UKScouting has created hundreds of free activities to make sure children continue to develop skills and stay active at home called #TheGreatIndoors. https://www.scouts.org.uk/the-great-indoors
If you suffer from lung disease (e.g. COPD) or asthma, @lunguk and @asthmauk are creating some really useful advice: http://blf.org.uk/support-for-you/coronavirus http://asthma.org.uk/advice/triggers/coronavirus-covid-19/
If you’re able to donate, there are many charities that need our support, such as @CPAGUK. Local initiatives like @camdengiving (who’ve raised over £163k for local projects) really do make a huge difference. To all CVS organisations and communities, thank you!
There are countless other organisations doing incredible work in difficult circumstances. The government funding announced for charities this week is a welcome first step but more is needed to ensure they don’t have to close their doors at this vital time. Follow @ncvo for info.
