I understand the urge to treat this as a war, but stop it.

The first casualty of war is truth. Deception is vital against an intelligent enemy.

I can& #39;t be alone in tearing my hair out when I hear ministers evading hard realities and slithering out of questions. Just say "we made mistakes, we are fixing them".

And opposition: let them say it. Just nod, and then help. Suspend politicking and be honest. We deserve it.

Next: wonderful that you thank the NHS, but you literally voted against paying them. And you led a campaign to oust Jenny and Luis, the NZ and Portuguese nurses you named.

Begin the process of rolling back on that. Pay properly. Welcome openly. Learn the lesson.

Last: this is a global crisis, so stop being so parochial. The appeals to nationhood repulse half of Scotland and much of Wales. It doesn& #39;t help.

I& #39;m glad Boris Johnson is recovering, but as well as being better, I hope he becomes BETTER. That& #39;s what& #39;s needed.
