So @DrBeauBeaumont wrote this twitter thread on churches, and I found that inspiring. So I decided to write a similar thread that is exactly the same and also slightly entirely different.

So sit back and enjoy https://twitter.com/DrBeauBeaumont/status/1248533233853136901
(This is also the second time I made this thread because the @twitter website ate my first thread. Never use the twitter website for threads. 😠) https://twitter.com/MarkusGerstel/status/1249333164390207488
Once upon a time there was a river. Someone (allegedly) made (or observed) an ox cross said river. Everyone* immediately decided that this was noteworthy, and they founded a city to see if it happened again.

(*Well - not everyone. A bunch of traitors later decided that there must be a nicer river somewhere else; they were wrong and don't know anything about punting and let's not talk of them right now)
You can only spend so much time looking at a river. There was not happening much otherwise, so people started thinking about all sorts of things other than oxen: theology, arts, the placement of commas in lists, and science.
