When I was little, like 5 or 6, my dad would come home with take-out dinner for himself and eat it while watching TV. He wouldn’t offer any to me or my mom or ask first if we wanted anything. Some people just care about themselves.

We didn’t have a lot, and often had to go without on even basic things like utilities or groceries sometimes. But my dad always managed to get the things he wanted, like a canoe or a metal detector. Or rounds at the bar. This is core selfishness. You can’t just fix that.
