Like most Coaches during this time, I've watched a lot of film from this season. After some quality discussions with @coachk424 & @Rastogi_Aseem, I noticed we force too many shots at the rim. Defenses at our level really collapse on all penetrating actions (drives & passes).
Always said we don't have too much trouble getting what we want. Just assumed during the times we were struggling to score it was because of our inability to finish around the rim. Looking more and more like our decision making needs to improve during those situations.
Noticed that we were taking so many contested shots in the lane. Typically shot over or around 2 or 3 defenders. Not blaming our players here. I have to find a way to help them feel more comfortable when they have the ball in those spots.
Possibly it's something with the way I structure our practices that tells them to shoot more often than not. Maybe we spend too much time doing 1v1 advantage finishing drill. Maybe we need to work more on technical moves for those situations.
Maybe we need a rule about first attacks vs set defenses. "First attack, look to kick out". Stress more kickouts and multiple attacks. It's been an eye opening study for me. Shows that we don't need to change anything we're doing up to that point. Clearly see what we need.
