Okay folks, it’s Easter, so let’s talk about the Law of Noncontradiction.
What does that have to do with Easter? I’ll address that later in the thread.
What does it mean? I’ll address that now. It means simply that two mutually exclusive claims can’t be true at the same time.
For example, let’s examine the claim that “all spiritual/religious claims are equally true/valid” in light of the Law of Noncontradiction.
Here’s where Easter comes in:
The Christian gospel says (among other things) that Jesus was actually and bodily resurrected from the dead.
The Muslim faith, for example (along with many others), claims that the resurrection never happened. That means that these two claims are mutually exclusive; they can’t both be true. That’s the Law of Noncontradiction in action.
Now, this doesn’t mean that Christians and Muslims
& anyone else who holds to mutually exclusive truth claims can’t or shouldn’t love and respect each other personally while also holding antithetical beliefs to one another! We absolutely can (indeed must) do so. But we can’t act like all “truth” is equally true- that’s illogical.
So here’s how the Law of Noncontradiction directly affects your life, no matter who you are.
Either Jesus was resurrected (and therefore the Christian gospel is true), or he wasn’t. There is no middle ground.
This means that, even if you don’t /like/ Christians or the things they
say (heck, I don’t like most of them most days myself), you /must/ seriously and thoughtfully consider and weigh the evidence regarding the radical truth claims of the resurrection of Christ. Because, if it’s true, that very Christ is your creator & you stand accountable to him.
If it’s not true? Then Christianity is all a load of bunk and Christians are foolish for believing such a lie (1 Corinthians 1:15).
I humbly propose to you that it is, in fact, not a lie. That Christ did rise from the dead and that he is indeed King of everything (even you)!
