There are a lot of students who simply have...disappeared. I’m not speaking of my own specifically, but what I am hearing from colleagues/friends. Many were already precarious. They have lost their jobs, flats, networks. Are we going to fail them all?

Do they have internet? Food? Secure housing? No way for us to know. No way they are re-enrolling in the fall. I think we'll see enrollment drops of 50-75%+ (has anyone predicted this? Just my guess). Many parents have lost jobs or will. Who will pay for school?

Already hiring freezes are in place on most if not all campuses. Many offers rescinded or searches suspended. No new hiring or replacements in 20-21 (and probably 21-22 as well). Adjunct/visiting positions cancelled. Research and travel $ frozen.

When will the dept cuts happen? You think Anthropology, Art History, Foreign Languages, Philosophy etc will survive at a lot of schools? HBCUs, community colleges, and small private schools barely surviving all will be threatened.

A have heard multiple parents share with me that they are postponing their kids 1st year of school. So, most places (at least state schools) will have what, 10-20% enrollment for 1st years? More? Less? I don't know. That's the safest year to delay.

We won't be back on campus teaching until FALL 2021 (there I said it). Do the math. Vaccine in 12 months, 6 months to deploy. FALL 2021. How many of us will lose our jobs? Thousands. Can we please please talk about the future of higher ed. We all see the tsunami.

Folks are freaking the F out but if we have a sense of when normalcy is possible again we can begin to plan. How do we adjust for Fall 2021? What can we do? How can we be strategic?

Massive #'s of PhDs unfinished due to lack of lab+ fieldwork. Huge backlog of PhDs on the market due to hiring freezes (this will take years for us to get out of. 3-5 at least). Is *anyone* out there having hard conversations? I hear what is being said by top admins. Its...scary
