Only few people relate to American hip hop in SA, before 2014 we had lot of dope MCs with American sound but they only had lil impact... in 2014 we had the likes of Cassper, Cash Time etc fussing their sound with kwaito, house etc and majority related to their songs
SA Hip Hop reached its peak and became biggest genre in SA at time, later Kwesta had the biggest song in the country Ngud and it was fussed with Kwaito but at that time SA hip hop started to lose numbers as many rappers started following American sound again
Gqom revived house sound again later overtaken by Amapiano as biggest genre in the country. Only the likes of Cassper & AKA always had biggest impact in SA with their music even if they change their sound as they have huge fan bases...
Kwesta and Emtee had a good run also with their sound as many related to their songs and dominated the streets... then there's Nasty C with American sound but he has never had biggest song in the country, Juice Back, Hell Naw & SMA are his biggest songs but were not biggest
Majority of his numbers are not from SA, he has highest streaming numbers but none of his songs has been the biggest in the country. In 2019 so many hip hop songs were released but had lil impact in the game because they all followed skrr skrr trend.
Back in 2014 hip hop songs dominated the streets, everywhere you go you'd hear Caracara, Phumakim, Run Jozi etc. but now when DJ plays hip hop audience gets bored, now they play hip hop when they know people are tired but before (2014-2016) it was main sound
I'm sure Sjava has biggest sales at Musica than Nasty C but the latter holds record of highest streaming numbers in SA but majority relates more to Sjava than Nasty C music
