The #ANC et al in the Western Cape has been peddling fake news about the City of Cape Town’s temporary homeless shelter in Strandfontein. They’ve labeled it a “concentration camp” I went there to see for myself. The situation is actually the contrary. [THREAD] #COVID19SouthAfrica

The City is accommodating over 1500 street people. 3 operators, experts on street people, have been appointed to manage the site providing 4 meals a day, warm and safe shelter, a healthcare facility fully equipped and stuffed with doctors and nurses including isolation sites.

The City’s efforts aren’t perfect but considering the circumstances, they’ve pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Since their arrival, all street people at the shelter have been screened. Some 500 are receiving some sort of healthcare, including those suffering substance withdrawals.

To top it off, the City and it’s partners have invested in entertainment. Organizing movie nights and even a live concert on site. All these efforts are unique to Cape Town. I haven’t seen any other Metro doing the same, at least to the extent Cape Town is doing.
