Q1 - Johnny Rodgers returns the opening kickoff to the Huskers 39 yard line.
Q1 - Both defenses shine early, forcing punts. Ed Periard finishes off the sack to force the LSU punt.
Q1 - Nebraska gets on the board first, thanks to a FG off the foot of Paul Rogers.

Q1 - Next drive for LSU and the Blackshirts create a turnover. Larry Jacobson forces the fumble. Willie Harper jumps on the recovery.
Q1 - Two plays later, the Huskers are in the end zone. Joe Orduna pounds it in from the 3 yard line.

Q2 - LSU tries to catch Nebraska’s defense sleeping. It doesn’t work.
Q2 - Ed Periard was an absolute beast in this game. His pressure on the QB never stopped.
Q2 - Who knew Johnny Rodgers was such a weapon on punt coverage? The Jet with a great tackle.
Q2 - Late in the half, LSU marches down to the Nebraska 19 yard line. The Tigers knock in a FG to cut into the Huskers lead.

Q3 - LSU came out in the 2nd Half with a nice drive. Nebraska’s defense held up in the red zone, forcing another LSU FG.

Q3 - The defensive slugfest continued. Jerry Tagge threw an INT, then Nebraska forced an LSU punt.

Finally, Tagge found his playmaker down the sideline to flip the field position.
Q3 - LSU claims the lead with a nice play action pass. PAT, no good.

Q4 - Tagge and crew get back to work. On 3rd & 7, Tagge finds Jeff Kinney for an 18 yard gain.
Q4 - The iconic reach across the goal line by Jerry Tagge. Nebraska takes back the lead.

Q4 - Is 17 points enough to beat the Tigers? The Blackshirts sure think so.
Q4 - With 1:30 left to play, Willie Harper rips the ball away from LSU. What a play!
Q4 - One last chance for LSU, but Bob Terrio with the INT.
FINAL - It’s over! Nebraska runs out the clock and the party is on. The Huskers finish ranked No. 1 in the AP poll to claim Bob Devaney’s first national title.
