fuck it
joan Fontaine - Letters From An Unknown Woman

as good as the direction is here, there’s something special in how joan balances building a growing fantasy (delusion?) through her performance while keeping the viewers sympathy in her ring. also points for pulling of those fits.
Shah Rukh Khan - Kabhi Hahn Kabhi Na.

wrote about this on letterboxd but I think this the best modern silent movie performance of all time in that if you watched this with no dialogue and just his movement you’d know everything you ever need to https://boxd.it/Rjj8j
Marie Rivière - The Green Ray

a performance that makes up so many of your introvert twitter personas
Manisha Koirala - Bombay

One thing I love about Manisha as a performer is that she gives you so much with a look but leaves just enough to interpretation of the camera
Humphrey Bogart - Dead End

menacing but the scene where he tries to reconnect with his mom and the camera sort of hides his face as she rejects him. his most tender on film
Tony Jaa - SLP 2 A Time For Consequences

let the jocks shed some tears!!
Danny Glover - To Sleep With Anger

better than Robert Mitchum in Night Of the Hunter
thandie newton - Flirting (1990)

so confident but with a teenage level of insecure and funny and tender of a performance
adrienne shelly in Trust (1990) - wrote a bit about it here already: https://letterboxd.com/abid_ism/film/trust/
Roya Arabshahi (i think, credits here are not great and this was her only role i think) - Ten (2002) abbas kiarostami

bro when i tell you the tears came out during this scene
junglepussy in support the girls

there’s a moment here where she’s in the back room and she makes a face that remained me so much of marlene dietrich smoking in the dark corner in shanghai express
rock hudson in seconds (1960)

heartbroking performance of a guy who just wanted to be hot but then felt cursed by hotness
