It's Easter and I'm home all alone.
So, I have some time for a thread with my other big passion: music!
I'll share with you stories and songs about the music I love & basketball...
👇👇👇👇
Smashing Pumpkins' leader Billy Corgan was not a basketball fan. But he used to party hard in Las Vegas during NBA Finals '97 with a certain Dennis Rodman.
A few months later he wrote this. Pistol Pete? Just a case? Who knows!
Band of Horses is a rock band from Seattle. Are you surprised they called one of their song "Detlef Schrempf"?
Not Payton or Kemp... Schrempf!
Seattle... Grunge... Nirvana!
No, Kurt Cobain hates sports.
But Pearl Jam's members are all great basketball fans. First band's name was Mookie Blaylock and later they dedicated this song to Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
Ok, Kareem has his own rock song.
But Magic too, thanks to Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"Does anybody want some Magic Johnson?"
Before he falled in love with poetry, music and heroin, Jim Carroll was a young high school star in New York playing in the same team with Kareem.
He talked about that period in his "Basketball diaries", but he also wrote some good old school punk song.
Arcade Fire's frontman Win Butler is a big basketball fan.
Legends talks about him beating in 3pts shootout players like Amir Johnson (ok, not that difficult) and a great rock fan like Matt Bonner.
"Wake Up" has not connection with the game. But I love it!
If you need a drummer for your rock band I have a name: Roko Ukic!
His father was member of a famous croation rock band called Daleka Obala and he tries to be the answer to Dave Grohl!
Did you know Serbia discovered the Beatles thanks to Radivoj Korac?
He played in Belgium and when he came back home he took to a friend that worked at Radio Belgrade "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band".
"We hope you will enjoy the show!"
I never heard about the Margot and the Nuclear So and So's. I discovered their "Arvydas Sabonis" surfing on YouTube.
I wrote to them via Facebook and they told me they falled in love with him and his story.
So, this is the song!
I finish with the Beastie Boys and their rock song for Bill Laimbeer.
Not exactly a love song...
