...because the numbers are revised daily to incorporate deaths that have taken several days/weeks to be confirmed.

The columns for the past few days will almost certainly shoot upwards in tomorrow's update. (2/3)

The thing to watch for, then, will be when the daily revisions stop sending the columns to ever-taller heights, and we can begin to see an identifiable "peak" in the daily totals.
