So Ross Kemp has been given access to infected areas to film a documentary, but were not allowing visitors in to see loved ones. I do not agree in the slightest. Stupid idea. I do believe that yes the ignorance of some in the public do need to see what’s going on..
But this could be done in other ways, for example NHS staff do the filming (with pt and family consent) in order to raise awareness, but a film crew? No. Not appropriate. Causes so much unnecessary hurt to those unable to spend last moments with their loved ones.
I don’t blame Ross Kemp, I think he’s brilliant & I’ve always admired his work. I blame the hospital allowing it, we all knew many trusts would be approached for filming, but saying yes to a film crew & granting access is distasteful. I’m sure frontline staff could of done this.
It’s also the frontline staff that will face the backlash, they are the ones who will tell relatives via phone that they are not permitted to enter, and rightly so relatives will be angry and remind them that film crews are aloud so why aren’t they? They don’t need that.
