You know what all the Stilo and Litch discourse is reminding me about? People hating irrationally on Chibi-Usa for acting how a child in that situation probably would. And ascribing strange, adult intent and morality on her behaviour, including projecting Electra nonsense
I think there’s a lot more to the recent bad take because there’s a weird “pro-abuse” undercurrent to it as well, but they both share shades of “this character annoyed me when I was younger/at the start of the story and I can’t reconcile that so she must be Bad”
A lot of people hated Cheebs, especially if they grew up with the Dic dub where, granted, she was less sympathetic. But it’s like they didn’t want to admit that the vitriol they had for a child so they came up with all these justifications lol
It’s like, they hated her for being annoying and acting irrationally, but it’s hard to defend that point because it is ironically irrational to expect a character who’s (mentally, at least) a child to behave any differently under the best of situations, never mind an apocalypse.
If you say you hate a child character for acting like a child then you know on some level you’re the one acting petulant so you come up with all these reasons why it’s normal actually to hold a very small child morally accountable in ways most adults can’t even live up to lmao
The Lilo/Nani angle of the recent hot take just reminds me a lot of the same angle people took comparing Chibi-Usa with Usagi, like suggesting Cheebs should’ve been punished more for “disrespecting” Usagi when Usagi is acting just as bratty bc she’s a kid too lol??
Just like. “I know she’s roughly 6 years old and her parents are functionally dead and her home has been destroyed because of one poor decision she made and she’s all alone bc she doesn’t trust the only person who could help her but she shouldn’t act like such a brat. :/“
Also while Cheebs missed the “pro abuse” angle from this debacle she DID get weird and gross headcanons people would come up with about her baby crush on Mamoru to justify why they disliked her or found her offputting when that was like... entirely on them lmao
If you look at a small kid who’s projecting onto a father figure in her life and gets brainwashed/turned evil, thus corrupting that childish “crush” into possessiveness and think “the actual child must also have an Electra complex” your critical lit analysis is about as bad
History repeats itself I suppose
