I grew up in the 80s with the presidential fitness tests. I could never do well on the toe-touching measurement board or mile run. The fact I had asthma never factored in, nor that I was born with short calves/tendons that could only be corrected with surgery. It was humiliating. https://twitter.com/Cavalorn/status/1248925065812598785
The OP was right in that I never learned to like exercise or incorporate it as part of my regular lifestyle. Most of the time I see it as a chore that eats up precious time, & the less I do it the more I suck at it, which brings up the cycle of "you are a failure" all over again.
I've taken classes. Joined work out groups. Occassionally taken up a sport. But it is never "fun" for me. It's another chore, and a painful one, which is worse. The whole "why bother when you aren't physically fit or even built for this" wins out in the end.
No advice needed. Just venting. I'm still pissed off that I am struggling walking a mile as I slowly recover from foot surgery. It's hard to notice any degree of progress/success when your physical therapists & workout videos feature people built like Chris Hemsworth & Gal Gadot.
For you youngins out there, in the 80s asthma was just a word for "you are not trying hard enough" or "you are a pansy ass wimp." There wasn't the same level of awareness about it then as there is now.
