I grew up in the 80s with the presidential fitness tests. I could never do well on the toe-touching measurement board or mile run. The fact I had asthma never factored in, nor that I was born with short calves/tendons that could only be corrected with surgery. It was humiliating. https://twitter.com/Cavalorn/status/1248925065812598785">https://twitter.com/Cavalorn/...
The OP was right in that I never learned to like exercise or incorporate it as part of my regular lifestyle. Most of the time I see it as a chore that eats up precious time, & the less I do it the more I suck at it, which brings up the cycle of "you are a failure" all over again.
I& #39;ve taken classes. Joined work out groups. Occassionally taken up a sport. But it is never "fun" for me. It& #39;s another chore, and a painful one, which is worse. The whole "why bother when you aren& #39;t physically fit or even built for this" wins out in the end.
No advice needed. Just venting. I& #39;m still pissed off that I am struggling walking a mile as I slowly recover from foot surgery. It& #39;s hard to notice any degree of progress/success when your physical therapists & workout videos feature people built like Chris Hemsworth & Gal Gadot.
For you youngins out there, in the 80s asthma was just a word for "you are not trying hard enough" or "you are a pansy ass wimp." There wasn& #39;t the same level of awareness about it then as there is now.
