folks in a deep bout of quarantine desperation, I watched the jay and s*lent bob reboot last night and it is truly atrocious, a movie made for no one, just a list of references from other, better movies and attempted "revenge" for 20-year-old grievances
no one, no one on earth, needs to heed the advice of "don& #39;t read the comments" more than K*vin Smith. Buddy has been so worked up over bad reviews for his shitty movies for two decades that he packs his movies with his own personal gripes and insecurities, petty as hell
he makes a joke in the movie about his heart attack and guilting friends into being in his next movie; glad he recovered/is healthy but this is clearly what happened here. Affleck is here just reading off references from his own movies. He tells a child "argot fuck yourself"
i am genetically predisposed to liking the Jersey trilogy, but Clerks is still his best work; amazing to see someone with clearly a lot of talent become exponentially more immature with every movie for three decades. Dude should be on some Safdie Brothers shit by now if he cared
much like this movie, these tweets have no audience, but i needed to put my reaction to it in the public record lest my viewing records ever get rightfully audited upon my death
i remember leaving the theater for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back saying i hated the movie, and my friend asked me how i could laugh at something so much and still hate it. that is not the case here: there are no laughs, Smith is almost in contempt at your expectation of humor
also he tries to apologize for the very problematic Chasing Amy in this in an insane way! Why not just make a good movie that you can stand behind instead a *third* movie trying to reframe his own work and argue with phantom critics?
you know what i watched recently that was a simple, well-done, funny as hell movie? Good Boys. Tweens cursing and talking sex, jokes that have real laughs; it& #39;s not even that original but didn& #39;t have to be. Watch movies like that instead.
