ICYMI, a blog post about the behavioural economics behind the Marie Kondo method (thread) https://twitter.com/franceswoolley/status/1249057319155105792
2. Theory: method works because it uses behavioural economics nudges. Example: take all your clothes and put them in a big pile. This shifts the reference point from "in the closet" to "out of the closet". Once things are out of the closet, easier to keep them out, toss them.
3. Example: asking "does this spark joy?" and giving thanks to a t-shirt before tossing. This works because it counters loss aversion. Coping with negative feelings by acknowledging them is standard psyc advice
4. Example: Framing tidying up as "fun!" as in "I love mess!" "Folding clothes is fun!" Framing tricks our minds.

I give another example in the post, but I'd be interested in yours (end thread).
