Hard, but hopeful #Easter 'rona update from #Italy; for anyone who wants to know what six weeks into #quarantine is like, as well as some stuff about the future.

First of all, a sunny Happy Easter from my quarantine buddy to you!

We celebrated as we could.

I made cake for my neighbours, they sent over a wheelbarrow of hot coals and barbecue meat. We shouted greetings at one another and it was lovely.

All the neighbours within shouting distance seem to agree that this is hard, but worth it.

We're not making as much progress as we would like, so the new news is that we'll be in quarantine for at least another month, maybe more.

We're settled in.

Our mayor is discreetly making plans for the hypothesis that schools might not even open come September.

It seems like our government might be prepared to hunker down for months if need be.

There are massive efforts going on to keep the economy going through delivery, remote work, and single-person-businesses.

They also gave us (including me) financial aid.

People who are struggling are getting food stamps, as well.

We got masks delivered, and kids are preparing to take finals remotely.

Rather than open the doors and shout "go", it seems like we will slowly adapt to a new way of functioning - which is what I was hoping for.

Considering the fact that we are nearing twenty thousand dead and still clock 6 to 8 hundred per day, I think it's pretty safe to say that this isn't just a bump in the road.

This is a new hill we're going to spend quite some time on.

To everyone out there - demand that your government take this seriously. Demand that they invest in long term strategies and plans. Demand that they gain your trust.

And if you don't trust them, remember this and fight for more when the time comes, because you deserve it.

We can use this to become better people and ask serious questions about the value of life.

When I am seventy I will still have things to say and do in this world. I will want to be loved and protected.

Right now is when we plant the seeds for that.
Have a peaceful Easter!
