We have developed societies that give people unparalleled convenience and comfort

But this depends on extreme efficiency in labor markets, production and supply, and previously unimaginable levels of debt

The enormous cost of this system to people and nature was already clearly visible

It created increasingly stark divisions and tensions

The #coronavirus crisis now lays this unequally carried cost even more bare

Temporary payments and economic stimuli won’t solve our problems

They are structural, not a result of the pandemic

The pandemic merely exposes the weaknesses and insufficient resilience of our societies

And there will be more pandemics

Some far more deadly than this one

We must create societies that can withstand such shocks

Societies that don’t use up the world’s resources before nature can replenish them

New political, economical and social systems
5/

Some of the answers are already out there

Others we will need to invent

We need leaders willing to experiment

While avoiding populists and false prophets from taking advantage of the turmoil to take power
