The learning curve of oil painting.

[A THREAD]
The main purpose of this thread is to inspire people to find a hobby (in this case: oil painting) especially during this lockdown. Also, I want to show that:

"Talent is just pursued interest"
-Bob Ross
To clarify, some paintings in this thread (up to #7) has been posted on my timeline before.

It's also worthy to clarify that:
Bragging is NOT my intention. I only wish to share the joy of painting with you all, and show that because I can do it, then you can do it too!
Everything here is inspired by "The Joy of Painting" series by Bob Ross, unless stated otherwise. Just type the title on Youtube and you'll find the original painting demonstration.
#1 "Isle in the Wilderness"
January 4th, 2020.

My first ever oil painting attempt in my life. I used Rp50k/12 tube oil paints. I bought the brushes from local material stores and used fan brushes originally intended for water colour (LOL).

It was a silly, yet fun attempt 😅
#2 "Peaceful Reflections"
January 15th 2020

I'm still using the same old gears + a plastic palette knife for the mountains (but miserably failed at it HAHA). On the bright side, as you can see, the grasses & bushes are noticably neater.
#3 "Sunset Aglow"
January 23rd, 2020

Still using the same gears. I learn how to layer the cloud here. The sky is quite satisfiying but the clouds are a bit mushy. But at least we can see the layers haha.

Although, I failed again at making mountains lol.
#4 "Hint of Springtime"
March 18th 2020

I get myself a real palette knife and made another attempt to make a mountain. This one is noticably better, but still there is room for improvement.

I bought a bristle fan brush, and learn how to make waterfalls. Trees are satisfying.
#5 "Red Sunset"
March 25th, 2020

I tried a black canvas. I used black acrylic to cover the entire white canvas. Yes I started with a black canvas here, believe it or not.

Main takeaway is I learned how to make house using the palette knife. Still using my Rp50k/12 tube paints
#6 "Northern Lights"
March 31st 2020

I'm using @winsorandnewton's Winton Student Colours now. A huge upgrade.
Black canvases are fun. I learned how to make 'aurora borealis' effect using various colours.

The mountain is getting there, but I know I can perform better!
#7 "Evening Waterfall"
April 11th, 2020

I learn & experiment on how to use masking tape for the borders to make some kind of frame. Then as instructed on the video, I go off borders with the waterfall.

Everything seems to be noticably tidier here!
#8 "Mountain Oval"
April 12th, 2020

After 4 attempts at mountains, I finally made a mountain worthy to see 😅. Adimas helped me to make an oval cardboard. I tore it off halfway the painting to allow me go off borders.

The birch tree could be neater, but overall I'm happy!
