We do not need the Lord's Supper (what we call communion) the same way we don't need...

Laying of hands to communicate the supernatural...

Lifting up Holy hands in worship and surrender...

Jumping and skipping to rejoice in the Holyspirit...
The supernatural transcends space time. Why do we lay hands?

Worship is a function of the Spirit. Why do we lift hands?

Rejoicing is in the heart. Why do we skip and jump?

Communion and remembrance of Jesus death is in the heart. Why do we need the Lord's Supper?
Because tokens have value in Christian conduct.

Consider that Apostle Paul says...

1 Corinthians 11:23
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

So Jesus commanded it directly.
Then he says..

1 Corinthians 11:26
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Proclaim is kataggello. To show and herald.

And it is the physical eating and drinking. Not figurative.

No confusion or equivocation.
Which means, unless we don't want to hear, that Paul says Jesus said that the physical Lord's Supper has some value in pointing to and remembering Jesus' death.

And it makes perfect sense because ministry is about getting to the minds of people.

It's about sights and sounds...
That can catch the attention of people and make them see the gospel.

Same way laying hands on people physically helps them to receive...

The Lord's Supper actually smacks different (if done right) in helping people remember in detail how that Jesus died and rose again.
The problem comes when tokens become idols.

When you say unless you eat communion in a certain way, you will die or unworthy.

Or say unless you lay hands a person can't be healed.

Or say unless you life hands you're not worshipping.

Do you see that?
A token becomes an idol when it replaces the spirit it was created to point to.

A token becomes an idol when it stops being a symbol and becomes a substance by itself.

I hope this will help shed some light on the issue of the Lord's Supper.

Jesus is our passover.

Glory!
And the Lord's Supper helps in a believers meeting to drive that point home.

If it was good for Jesus and Apostle Paul...

It's definitely good enough for me.

And should be good enough for you too.

Happy Easter!!!!!
