Last week we published 19 features, interviews and investigations; 6 opinion columns and 1 new podcast on @thecurrency.
Our most read story was by @Keyes looking at how the Covid-19 crisis has frozen the property market. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14622/property-markets-are-frozen-but-just-how-long-before-they-crack">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
The article looked at a blog post by Tom Barrack founder of @Colony_Capital. Colony is probably the biggest private investor in Irish real estate - backing people like Johnny Ronan and Paddy McKillen. @Keyes looked at what he said and the read through for Irish property.
Our second most read story ever also featured @Colony_Capital. This was a 14,000 word article on the life and times of Johnny Ronan. It gives an insight into a talented, very determined developer - who is arguably our best. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/915/pursuing-paradise-the-life-and-times-of-johnny-ronan">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Last week I started the week interviewing the new ceo of @ProvidenceReso. This company was a huge disappointment last year after a Chinese deal fell through sending its shares down by north of 90%.
But there is potentially billions worth of oil and gas in its field off the coast of Cork. It made progress last week. If we had that oil / gas pumping it would really help the economy when eventually we come out of this thing. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14502/reviving-providence-resources-we-consider-barryroe-to-be-now-ready-to-be-developed">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
A new writer started with us last week @rosiemcmeel. Her first article was an interview with jewellery designer @oreillygldsmith. A fascinating story about a talented man. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/13210/the-crisis-has-shown-up-the-amount-of-people-who-say-their-work-isnt-made-in-china-but-is-just-because-they-stick-a-label-on-it-in-europe-doesnt-make-it-so">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Our podcast looked at whether we are facing another period of prolonged austerity? Or can we chart a new fiscal future? Our chief economics writer @stephenkinsella spoke to @ipkehoe. Thank you to @Investec for sponsoring our podcast series. https://www.thecurrency.news/podcasts ">https://www.thecurrency.news/podcasts&...
We only published his story on Friday...but already @paulcaddensaba and @SabaDublin is among our most read. We want to write about people like him - and many others in the restaurant trade - who are picking themselves back up and keeping going. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14864/family-pride-how-saba-plans-to-survive-the-crisis">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
@SabaToGo is open today from 4pm to 10pm offering meal collections or delivery. Do consider this week supporting local restaurants by ordering food from them.
We also published an essay by Stephen Felle about @LFC. Stephen is voluntary chairman of the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust and his article was about the real spirit of the club. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14769/stephen-felle-the-furlough-controversy-was-out-of-character-with-the-wonderful-way-liverpool-have-helped-my-friend-sean-cox">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Our legal editor @cescacomyn covered some fascinating battles - Larry Goodman vs a former executive. My favourite though was whiskey wars. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14483/whiskey-wars-from-panama-to-cyprus-the-high-cost-of-taking-on-irish-distillers">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Editor @ipkehoe wrote about the fall of Debenhams. And he also revealed yesterday the inside story of how @fbd_ie is trying to avoid paying out on insurance to hundreds of Irish pubs. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14943/rejected-the-reasons-given-by-fbd-for-not-covering-losses-from-infectious-and-contagious-diseases">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Our reporter @AreYou_Caden_Me meanwhile looked at the sports sponsorship business - and what happens when sport stops. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/12869/sponsorship-is-critical-to-the-business-of-sport-what-happens-it-when-games-stop">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
We also published a new column by @AJConnolly1 which looked at the way companies are changing how they operate and engage with both customers and staff. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14462/six-business-opportunities-from-covid-19-making-lemonade-out-of-lemons">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
Finally we had this essay by Anne Harris the former editor of The Sunday Independent which we published today. It contains a poem and is a thoughtful and beautiful piece of writing that is a tribute to the people working in @Postvox. https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/14963/anne-harris-we-cannot-be-immune-to-the-stories-and-we-cannot-weed-out-the-dreamers-they-are-the-poets-and-we-need-them-now">https://www.thecurrency.news/articles/...
The people and team in @Postvox led by @DavidMcredmond are doing so much more than just delivering letters and parcels. They& #39;ve always done that - but with so many isolated and lonely they are now playing an even more vital role in our communities.
And there ends this thread. Thank you to all our members - both the new ones who recently joined and those with us from the beginning. We would not be able to be journalists without you.
