What it’s like in ED at the moment:

I am grateful every day at work that we are not dealing with the horrendous #COVID19 numbers seen in other places, but what we are dealing with (not exhaustive list):
Minor trauma
- now is not the time for that #DIY project you have put off for months
- trampolines are still evil
#domesticviolence
- already widespread in our society, even if you don’t normally see it
- much harder for victims of either sex to escape & fewer places for them to go
#Mentalhealth
- spike in EtOH and drug use
- spike in withdrawals, as apparently drugs harder to get
- medication non-compliance
- suicide
- anxiety
As restrictions tighten, it becomes more important to #lookaftereachother & check in on friends/neighbours/family, and
for GPs to be accessible for their long term mental health pts
@RACGP @RACGPPresident work for Telehealth numbers has been vital for this
@nswpolice maybe don’t tell folk getting cigarettes and alcohol that these are non-essential items & threaten with fines? (several accounts of this today)
I don’t want withdrawals and cravings to contribute to the above
Finally, if you are concerned about your health, please seek help, either with your GP, after hours Telehealth numbers or local ED
