My students can testify how much I've want them to earn their grades and how much I advocate for optimum learning. However, whatever choice we make, there is always a consequence. I was actually hesitant of the mass promotion call but now, I somehow see the wisdom of it (1/n)
(2/n)

1) Extend the sem, no midyear - I think this is not feasible given the current situation. We cannot just go back to "business as usual" after this (say by end of May). There will be a lot of adjustments to make, not only economic even mental and physical.
(3/n)
2)Continuation via online learning - this is the most illogical for me. Aside from the fact that this is very anti-poor, let's face it, we are not ready for this mode of learning. We are just adding unnecessary stress to everyone if we will still continue with the sem.

3) Freeze the sem - this was my first proposition. However, the delay will greatly affect seasonal subjects, application to med, law and gradschool. Some students may miss huge opportunity if we try to delay the semester.

4) Repeat the sem - seems okay if we want to really have maximum learning. But if we factor in the economic aspect, it may also result to a not so inclusive policy. Just imagine how much to spend for bhouse, transpo etc. not to mention the post-effects of the pandemic.
(6/n) And so I think mass promotion is the most humane option given the scenario. Ending the sem would be a decisive move to stop all the worries and confusions experienced not only by students but even faculty and staff.
(7/n) But I hope that the university will institute programs that will still ensure optimum learning for the students. The anxiety of students regarding topics and skills that they will not acquire must be properly addressed.
(8/n) As for me, if mass promotion will be pushed, I will make myself available to guide my students for them to gain the necessary skill and knowledge about our subject. Rest assured that I will do my best to fulfill my goal of making them learn even in this unusual time.
