Another thread + conversation with Yuzi has me thinking about this: how did Peterson gain a positive reputation with the FACTS and LOGIC crowd, given that his methodology is basically to freely weave tales of jungian mysticism? My guess in the reply.
Peterson likes science under the aspect of it being a pillar of what he thinks of as the West; it is a cultural achievement, a by this point traditional authority source, and celebrated as such. That needn't have much to do with, like, applying scientific method yourself...
... this is flattering to people who identify with that cultural achievement. So even if he does not exemplify its virtues, he gives them the sense that they do. That's enough to generate a positive association with Peterson. This is pure speculation, grain of salt needed!
