The best thing my Nani teaches me my whole life is a strength, resilience, dignity and work ethic, I’ve not hardly seen this in anyone my whole life. Every single day is disciplined, dignified, & more hard working, even through untold horrors & pain with never a single complaint.
She is so remarkable that when I go out to the world I’ve always been disappointed by so much, 85+ years of that hard work, everyday. Made of totally different stuff. Exhaustion, work, discipline, effort, resilience takes on new meaning because of her.
She doesn’t complain, about anything, she’s always grateful for every bit of work and effort she gets to make whether it was working life more traditional, or all the other stuff, she will beg to cook for you, to help you with something, to do things even now. She never moans.
She’s like the opposite of a mood hoover.
Tiredness was never even a concept they allowed to come into our frame of understanding, I’ve never heard them say they are tired, done too much work, they would just skip away to bed & return the next day, up & ready hours before anyone, and back on it, with a big smile.
They never make you feel lame for your lack or energy, sleeping in, lack of motivation, they would even entertain it & day, ah you know you’ve had a hard week, wait patiently, & then be like what needs doing then, or just go get on with stuff.
I could go on for 1000s and 1000s of tweet about how ridiculously fantastic she is, super human esque, & why the world is such a disappointment when you’ve been raised by her.
