james(avgn) saying he didnt like donnie darko because it "didnt make sense" and then being told it was also a good coming of age movie, and then him saying "yeah karate kid is too!" totally de-legitimizes anything he has to say about movies IMO
its not even coming of age its more about being a late teenager than anything, and mental health even more so. its about schizos (to me at least) and people watching explanations on it take the point out of the film entirely. and if the ending doesnt explain the movie than idk.
the ending literally spells out that there is 2 timelines, and makes it very clear that there was a sort of "reset," its a great film but people that dont like it simply put, never bother to expand on it. if it isnt made SUPER CLEAR then the mindset is "why bother?"
same shit happens with music, if its even a tiny bit challenging, most people would much rather turn it off, it doesnt make sense to people why you would want to challenge yourself or expand into weirder stuff. idc this thread suxx
