what is queerbaiting?, you may ask

It is when an art, especially film/series industry make money by using queer as their theme/focus, so other people like fujoshi or queer people or feminists can watch it, but they’re not casting real queer

for example, Sarawat, who is a gay character, played by cis straight hot white male, and that ladies, that is an example of queerbaiting, they casted a straight and hot actor so everyone can thirsting over him and watch the film/series, so they can make money

is it legal? ofc it is, it’s a marketin strategy, why would they cast an ugly queer when they can cast a hot straight white male to play gay character? no one wants to watch it anw if it is played by queer people

and not only 2gether, there are also many western series/films that are using queerbaiting as a marketing strategy, for example ScarJo was actually casted to play a trans woman but she quit the project bc she’s not trans

anggap sebuah film western, temanya tentang Indonesia, main char/lead nya Indonesian, mereka sengaja bikin Indo sebagai tema karena Indo punya banyak penduduk, banyak yg nonton dan dapet banyak uang, tapi lead tadi malah diperankan sama american, african atau chinese

apa itu merepresentasikan Indonesia? ofc enggak, mereka gunaiin Indo sebagai “bait” jadi biar banyak ditonton dan dapet uang

it may sound so sjw-esque but that’s the truth, they can at the least, at the bare minimum, they can cast a pan or bi instead of straight

the main focus on this thread is queerbaiting, don’t get me wrong, I still love so many queerbaiting series and films including this one, but I think, acknowledging yall about queerbaiting won’t hurt
