If you look at some key indicators for death from coronavirus, the U.K. is a patient with pre-existing health problems:
31% adults clinically obese (Euro average 21%)
25% physically inactive, doing less than 30min exercise a week
Average of 3.7 portions of fruit & veg a day
There has been some media focus on BAME hospitalisations for coronavirus. These communities exercise less (see below) and eat less healthily. This is doubtless linked in part to income.
Men with high blood pressure are disproportionately killed by the coronavirus. Twice as many men (16%) smoke in the U.K. as in Sweden. UK alcohol consumption is among the highest in the world. Questions to be asked of govt, response, of course, but also of our own lifestyles.
As far as I’m aware it’s still up to the individual to decide what they buy & put in their mouths. Look at the traffic light colours on food. You don’t necessarily have to be rich to eat healthily (See Jack Monroe etc) or go for a walk https://twitter.com/doctorjudieg/status/1249243710493282305?s=21 https://twitter.com/doctorjudieg/status/1249243710493282305
Countries with higher incomes are generally the least active. English speaking countries generally drink the most. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-45408017 https://twitter.com/subhcmole/status/1249246395455987719?s=21 https://twitter.com/subhcmole/status/1249246395455987719
