People keep talking about the backlash Priti Patel faces is only because she’s a woman of colour. Wrong. Some of it may be racism however large % is because she is incompetent, not compassionate & unfit for role. Her disconnection from those she apparently serves is unfathomable.
And let’s not forget how colourism translates here too - look at how Dianne Abbott is & was treated... and how Priti is. Remember that “woman of colour” is a blanket term that requires nuance. Black women & asian women are not treated the same.
The discussion of “low skilled workers” as basic fodder prior to COVID19 is horrible. She should be held accountable (& she won’t be). And the new legislation of having those saving our lives to leave once this is over is cold, brutal & disgusting.

When I see women of colour in leadership, I’m usually excited. There are very few of us.

However, I do not accept anyone who is so unaware of their privilege that they step on those who do not have it, because they traverse privilege lines because of financial status.
You can become more privileged in life (I have!) & keep an honest, open connection to your background, people around you & when you become disconnected, actively seek those views you no longer have.

This isn’t happening. People are dying. And majority of backlash is deserved.
