So then, I started a poll to see which thread I should make. In the meantime, I'll do some threads:
Starting with Arabic in the pre-Islamic era.
Firstly, I'd like to say that in the Arabian Peninsula was a myriad of Semitic languages, some being more related to each other than others. Sabaic, Himyaritic and Safaitic come to mind. Not to mention the more bookish tongues like Aramaic and Hebrew.
Therefore the history of Arabic before the era of Islam is very hazy. Though, there do exist some inscriptions that are most definitely Arabic, the earliest of which was found in Ein Avdat, and was written in the Nabataean script.
Another well-known inscription in Arabic was the Namarah inscription, also written in the Nabataean script. It was an epitaph mentioning the king Imru al-Qays ibn Amr. One thing to note here is that instead of the Arabic "b-n-" root, it uses the Aramaic "b-r-" root instead.
To bring this thread to a close, I must say that the Ein Avdat inscription was mostly in Aramaic, but with two lines of Arabic poetry at the end.
