I love how people give you a lecture about what you need to do without really listening to you about what you’re really facing, and have no idea what they’re talking about. Even more, I love when then go off on you, declaring you don’t want help cause you won’t do as they say.
For example, you should never tell a victim of domestic violence what to do. You give her options — and never dictate what you believe is right. Cause:

A. It’s against empowerment to do so. She’s been controlled, don’t control her too.
B. You could get her killed.
I’ve been noticing threads and comments on this app from ignorant ppl with good intentions. For example, ppl think going to the police is the best way to go, but have no idea that over 50% of victims get murdered when they do so. The most dangerous time is when a woman leaves.
You could get a woman killed just by trying to dictate to her what you think is best for her.
But this applies to everything. Not just DV, or women in crisis. This goes for everyone you come across in this life. You can’t help a person you don’t respect enough to listen to them.
Just cause someone needs help doesn’t mean they are stupid and can’t make smart decisions.
Also, people (like a recent troll) who think anyone struggling in life needs mental help — is ignorant. What ppl need more than a therapist — is a support system. A sense of belonging. Community. A job. A therapist can’t help you if you lack the basic things needed to survive.
Empathy. We all need to practice it more every day.
Telling ppl to go get mental help when they need help a therapist cannot provide — is a form of gaslighting.
