I'm not an economist but one should be able to tell how bad things could ho wrong should we relax our lock down rules.

From my point of view [a thread]
We saythe economy is failing or it's gonna fail so we want the lockdown rules to be relaxed to allow the running of food franchises and alcohol outlets. Perhaps some pubs, clubs and tarverns as well? Yeh?
All this for the sake of the economy and to make comfortable the middle and upper class of the population. Correct?
Mind you we're still getting new cases during the lock down but the numbers are not as bad as they would have been had this not been implemented. We really don't even have to argue about this.
Now with opening of these "economy saving establishments" what do you think will happen to the numbers? I know some will suggest added measures of control to reduce risk of spread but even with those, the numbers will rise at a much higher rate.
We would basically be risking increasing the rate of new infections and by doing so we then start burdening the health system. But this is not about the health system right, it's about the economy.
So what's gonna happen to out economy when we have more people being unable to work? How many people are gonna be taken off work, even the essential service providers.
With the health system crippled and the struggle to keep individuals alive increasing, do we think we'd still be able to keep open the same establishments we needed open to "save" the economy.
A critical state where the health sector is no longer able to care for the multitudes will most likely require even far more strict lock down rules. The economy will then surely crumble, far worse than what's gonna happen with the current lockdown rules.
Lives are gonna be lost and even that has some negative impact on the economy. We are better off with the lockdown and how things are currently. We really shouldn't be trying to mess with the current system. Our economy will recover.
With relaxed lockdown rules, the same economy people are worried about will struggle to recover from that knock.
This is not a South African epidemic, it's a worldwide pandemic. Many countries will have their economies strained. This is not something specific only to SA and so far our strict rules have shown to improve overall outcomes compared to other countries.
We really just need to bear through this until such a time that we have a vaccine! We shouldn't be fighting the government for individualistic livelihood when there are multitudes to think about.
