#MuseumsUnlocked Day 12 takes us to Berlin, so here are a few of my snaps from a visit to the Gipsformerei at Staatliche Museen Zu Berlin, the largest replica-making workshop in the world. The Gipsformerei holds a collection of over 7000 piece-moulds and models. @profdanhicks
The Gipsformerei still uses their historic moulds to this day to produce replicas for museums and universities, as well as pieces for private collectors and contemporary artists like Jeff Koons. Mould sizes range from the minuscule to the enormous! #MuseumsUnlocked
The Gipsformerei’s long history has recently been honoured by a temporary exhibition at the James-Simon-Galerie entitled Near Life - 200 Years of Casting Plaster. Near Life focuses on casting as a technique used by sculptors to capture both life and death. #MuseumsUnlocked
