If you can’t have a fundamental disagreement with someone without thinking they are stupid, I have no fucking time for you
Looking at all socialists who love getting into these esoteric, theoretical arguments usually rooted in the partisan disputes of some particular historical moment; if you think someone is stupid because you disagree with their interpretation of ‘Grundrisse’ or some shit, it seems
overwhelmingly probable to me that you have a contemptuous attitude toward people in general. Usually (not always) those who talk this way will take some care to be more cordial with, for example, your average working class person than they are with someone who is as well
(or nearly as) theoretically versed as themselves. But to me this is just schizophrenic and not helpful or conducive toward victory. I don’t see how you can think someone is stupid because they fall on the wrong side of some abstract ideological dispute, without thinking that
the average person is basically stupid for not even being informed enough on the subject matter to make a basic theoretical contribution to the conversation. And quite frankly, if you think most people are basically stupid, what is even the point in supporting socialism? To save
people from their own stupidity? That is a pretentious and laughable conception of politics, and it deserves to lose.
