Made a big dent in The Surge 2 today and I’ve got to that nice sweet spot of a souls-like where I’m tough enough that it’s not TERRIFYING anymore but it’s challenging enough that I still have to be real careful and it’s like a beautiful techno dance and I love it

My faaaaavourite thing about The Surge games is how customizable the playstyle is because of all the different combat techniques at the player’s disposal along with the huge range of weapon, armour, and tool types. The sequel goes even further!
Love all the drones!!

The gameplay is super technical and requires strategy, but you can also just grind out upgrades and levelling by farming and hack and slash your way around if that’s what you prefer (I prefer the strategic technical approach even if it feels slower - way less grinding).
Anyway, aside from the fact that Science Fiction is waaaay more my thing than Fantasy this is why I love them more than the original Souls games.
The Surge 2 isn’t disappointing at all, is really built on that solid foundation, and even improved!

I’d have to go back and check but I think there’s LESS player settings in the sequel? But there’s some really nice updates and I think it’s because the controls are better now.
It’s actually relaxing when I’m in the groove (except for bosses of course

I really think The Surge (1/2) are a great example of when no difficulty mode really works but you can still have flexible game design that welcomes a wide range of different player experiences & abilities
Now, if only the onboarding could be more approachable in that vein
