i know "learn to code" is like this awful thing tech bros say to people who do real work, but the further the west descends into fascism the more important i think it is that everyone has some decent tech skills, particularly around data security
obviously not just tech skills but survival skills in general, with "stay safe while still using technology" being a survival skill
people talk about that a lot in the context of journalists, activists, etc., and obviously in the tech world, but that's like saying "only garage owners, car manufactures, and people into hot rods should know how to change a tire"
everyone who drives should know how to change a tire, and everyone who uses the internet should take a couple of days to better secure themselves online

obviously if you're spending all your online time watching cat videos, you don't need to install an obscure OS or encrypt your hard drive, but read through the things in that post and the thread linked above and figure out what you do and don't need.
